About The Position

Maryland Energy Advisors (MDEA) is seeking a highly connected and strategic Vice President, Advisory Services to establish and lead a new public affairs advisory practice serving utilities, energy developers, data center operators, and other large energy users. This leader will help clients navigate Maryland’s evolving legislative, regulatory, and political landscape while building public trust and advancing business objectives. Unlike traditional lobbying firms, MDEA’s public affairs practice focuses on strategy, stakeholder engagement, policy positioning, and advocacy campaign development that strengthens and informs lobbying efforts rather than executing direct lobbying activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, engineering, or equivalent related work experience.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop strategic solutions.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong knowledge of energy markets, procurement processes, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong Emotional Intelligence: ability to understand needs and feelings, then responding appropriately.
  • Strong Communication Skills: ability to build relationships, identify concerns and articulate solutions.
  • Active Listening: ability to understand a customer's needs, by offering clarifying questions and responses.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the business on the implementation of key regulatory changes.
  • Handle routine regulatory reviews and inquiries, and communicating with exchanges and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects on a regular basis.
  • Build relations with the relevant business and management.
  • Escalate transactions and issues where appropriate.
  • Assist management in resolving compliance issues.
  • Advise on regulatory reform and implementation.
  • Identify, track and action, as necessary, new relevant rules and regulations or changes to existing regulations.
  • Support regulatory compliance colleagues in responding to various regulatory requests and examinations.
  • Contribute to the firm's compliance risk assessment process.
  • Provide advice on application of rules and policies to specific transactions and general business activities based on an understanding of business strategies and product portfolios.
  • Advise on relevant business and Compliance procedures.
  • The creation and implementation of policies and procedures to promote compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
