About The Position

GIC is seeking a highly motivated, high-caliber funds lawyer to join its Legal Division in New York. This individual will support GIC public market investment professionals across the External Managers Department, Fixed Income & Multi Asset Department, Alternative Credit Group, and the Portfolio Execution & Solutions Group. The role involves managing key legal, regulatory, and compliance risks for GIC and partnering with the business to ensure these risks are identified, assessed, and addressed efficiently. The position offers exposure to a global network of industry leaders and contributes to GIC's role as a leading global long-term investor.

Requirements

  • Law degree with strong academic results from a good law school.
  • 7-9 years post qualification experience as an investment funds lawyer (whether in private practice or in-house).
  • Licensed to practice law in a U.S. state (preferably New York or California).
  • Analytical mind, intellectually curious, with a good knowledge of commercial law.
  • Ability to identify legal risks and propose solutions while balancing business objectives.
  • Good negotiating skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to effectively represent GIC in dealings with our counterparties and LCD with internal clients.
  • Adaptable to changes and resourceful.
  • Ability to multitask within tight timelines.
  • Able to work independently and in a team, with drive and a strong desire to succeed.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant legal experience in relation to corporate matters and vendor agreements will be an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Identify key legal, regulatory and reputational issues in transactions arising from investment activities as well as non-investment related activities.
  • Recommend and implement creative solutions to address complex a wide variety of legal issues.
  • Liaise and consult with top international and local law firms on a wide variety of legal matters, with a view to delivering superior services on a cost-effective basis.
  • Review, negotiate and manage transactions to close and draft and/or comment on associated contracts.
  • Contribute and promote teamwork and collaboration among the LCD team.
  • Participate in or contribute to GIC-wide initiatives and projects as needed on a global basis.
