About The Position

The Vice President of Financial Reporting is a senior finance leader responsible for overseeing the company’s corporate and property-level financial reporting functions. This role ensures the timely, accurate, and consistent delivery of financial statements, management reporting, owner and client reporting, and related financial analysis across a diverse portfolio of managed properties. The VP will provide leadership over financial reporting processes, accounting controls, reporting standards, and team performance while partnering closely with Property Management, Accounting, Asset Management, Treasury, Operations, and executive leadership. The ideal candidate combines deep technical accounting and financial reporting expertise with significant experience in the New York City real estate and property management environment. This individual must be comfortable operating at both the strategic and detailed levels—establishing reporting standards and controls while also identifying and resolving complex accounting and property-level reporting issues.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required.
Approximately 12+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience, including significant leadership responsibility.
Substantial experience within real estate, property management, or a closely related industry strongly preferred.
Experience overseeing both corporate and multi-property financial reporting is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial statement preparation, account reconciliation, internal controls, and financial close processes.
Demonstrated experience managing complex financial operations with multiple entities, properties, clients, or reporting requirements.
Experience working with residential property management, condominium/cooperative management, commercial real estate, or mixed-use portfolios is preferred.
Strong understanding of NYC real estate and property management practices is highly desirable.
Experience interacting with property owners, boards, senior executives, auditors, and other sophisticated stakeholders.
Advanced proficiency with accounting and property-management systems, Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting tools.

Responsibilities

Lead the preparation, review, and delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for both corporate operations and managed properties.
Establish and maintain consistent financial reporting standards, policies, calendars, and review procedures across the organization.
Ensure financial statements and management reports are accurate, complete, timely, and prepared in accordance with applicable accounting standards, contractual requirements, and company policies.
Provide executive leadership with meaningful financial analysis, trends, risks, and insights to support business decisions.
Review complex or unusual accounting matters and provide guidance regarding appropriate accounting treatment.
Continuously improve the quality, consistency, and usability of financial reporting.
Oversee financial reporting for a diverse portfolio of residential, condominium, cooperative, commercial, and/or mixed-use properties.
Ensure timely delivery of monthly financial packages to property managers, boards, owners, asset managers, and other stakeholders.
Establish standards for property financial packages, including balance sheets, income statements, budget-to-actual reporting, cash analysis, general ledger detail, and supporting schedules.
Partner with Property Management and Accounting teams to investigate and resolve significant budget variances, balance-sheet issues, aged items, and reporting discrepancies.
Maintain appropriate accounting and reporting practices for property-specific funds, reserves, capital projects, assessments, and other financial activity.
Support board and ownership reporting requirements and provide financial expertise on complex property matters.
Ensure property accounting records appropriately reflect management agreements, ownership structures, and client-specific reporting requirements.
Oversee corporate financial reporting, including monthly and year-end close activities.
Review consolidated financial statements, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and management reporting.
Ensure appropriate accounting for corporate revenues, expenses, accruals, intercompany activity, allocations, and other significant transactions.
Partner with FP&A and executive leadership on budgets, forecasts, financial performance, and variance analysis.
Develop reporting that provides leadership with clear visibility into company performance, profitability, operating trends, and financial risks.
Develop, document, and maintain a strong financial control environment across corporate and property accounting.
Establish clear review and approval procedures for financial reporting and significant accounting activity.
Identify control weaknesses, reporting risks, and process gaps and implement corrective actions.
Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and accountability throughout financial reporting processes.
Coordinate financial reporting requirements associated with external audits, tax matters, regulatory requirements, and other third-party reviews.
Serve as a primary finance contact for auditors and other external financial stakeholders as appropriate.
Evaluate existing accounting and reporting processes and implement improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and transparency.
Standardize reporting processes across properties and business units where appropriate while accommodating legitimate client-specific requirements.
Leverage property management, accounting, business intelligence, and reporting systems to reduce manual processes and improve data integrity.
Develop dashboards, KPIs, exception reporting, and other tools that enable management to identify issues proactively.
Partner with technology and operations teams on financial-system implementations, integrations, upgrades, and reporting initiatives.
Promote automation and stronger use of financial data throughout the organization.
Lead, mentor, and develop financial reporting and accounting professionals.
Establish clear performance expectations, accountability standards, and development plans for team members.
Build a high-performing organization capable of supporting a complex and growing property portfolio.
Evaluate team structure, responsibilities, workflows, and staffing requirements to ensure appropriate capacity and controls.
Foster strong collaboration between Finance, Property Management, Operations, Treasury, and other departments.
Serve as a senior escalation point for complex financial reporting and accounting matters.
Act as a trusted financial partner to senior leadership and operational executives.
Translate complex financial information into clear business insights and recommendations.
Partner with property management leadership to strengthen financial accountability and reporting quality across the portfolio.
Participate in presentations and discussions with property owners, boards, clients, auditors, and other stakeholders as required.
Support new-business transitions, property onboarding/offboarding, acquisitions, management changes, and other strategic initiatives from a financial reporting perspective.
