About The Position

Provides financial leadership to support Saint Alphonsus Health System (SAHS) and Saint Alphonsus Medical Group (SAMG). Emphasis is on driving increased financial stewardship and implementation of consistent and best practice business processes. Serves as primary linkage between SAHS finance team for aligned physician relationships. Develops, prepares, and manages physician practice budgets, strategic financial plans and capital requests, assists in financial analysis of physician acquisitions, monitors performance, and supports improvement to ensure strong financial stewardship at both SAMG and SAHS. Mentors network executives and network finance leadership to strengthen business competencies.

Requirements

  • MBA or financial related master's degree or CPA required in addition to a B.S. degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 5 years' of relevant administrative experience (health care preferred) at a Senior Management level
  • Experience with health care operations, reimbursement methodologies, managed care monitoring systems, health care outcomes measurement systems, utilization review methodology and managed care organization operations
  • Must possess strong analytical and business management skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with physician stakeholders and skills to present complex financial data and information to a range of audiences that include clinical and administrative stakeholders
  • Must possess a working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, thorough knowledge of reimbursement principles and operations, demonstrated experience with revenue cycle activities in a physician practice environment, and health care regulations
  • Must have a thorough, broad-based knowledge of health care finance, multi-specialty physician practice financial operations, business planning/development, and payer environment. Knowledge gained through five or more years as a finance leader of a physician group practice of >50 physicians, or a system-level executive with finance responsibility for a physician group >50 directly managing large physician group finance and revenue cycle engagements.

  • Ability to identify, leverage and rapidly rollout system initiatives, with ability to lead through technical, political and cultural barriers to change. Must possess leadership skills including the ability to influence others and achieve results with and without direct line accountability, and function in both a leadership and support role in a team and system environment.

Responsibilities

  • Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of Trinity Health in leadership behaviors, practices, and decisions.
  • Provides finance leadership support and guidance to the Physician Practice Leadership, and system leadership and is part of the senior finance leadership team.
  • Provides senior finance leadership and direction of SAMG, oversees the development of short and long-range goals and objectives and ensures system growth and integration of strategic financial plans with operations.
  • Responsible and accountable for leadership and operational direction and excellence including achievement of the Priority Strategic Aims (PSAs) within Saint Alphonsus Health System.
  • Serves as primary linkage between SAMG and SAHS finance team for aligned physicians. Maintains close communications, direction, feedback and support.
  • Works closely with accounting department on monthly close and makes recommendations to SAHS CFO on proper balance sheet reserves and allowances for SAMG.
  • Facilitates identification and execution of performance goals in cost management, business processes, provider compensation and other areas.
  • Establishes annual and multi-year SAMG employed physician networks financial targets (i.e. profitability by practice, per established physician, productivity, revenue per RVU, etc.), in conjunction with SAMG leadership and SAHS leadership.
  • Monitors SAMG employed physician networks financial performance against targets, and supports intervention, contingency planning and improvement when identified. Works with CAO to develop and execute performance improvement plans.
  • Provides financial leadership support for physician acquisitions with particular focus on valuation of practices, evaluation of employment arrangements and ROI analysis. Supports development and review of major SAMG capital project plans, physician acquisitions and strategic financial plans with SAMG and SAHS leadership.
  • Supports identification, design and implementation of SAHS initiatives, including common information systems, shared service centers, standardized policies and processes, etc. Specific initiatives may include determination of compensation models, physician acquisitions valuation standards, revenue cycle strategies and processes and information technology strategies.
  • As a member of SAMG leadership team, proactively works to streamline processes, clarify accountabilities, improve organizational capability and enhance financial stewardship in order to support SAHS objectives. Understands and promotes continuous quality improvement tools and methodologies for process redesign, leading key teams from across Trinity Health.
  • Provides financial leadership support for merger, divestiture and acquisition initiatives as required.
  • Provides leadership on key finance initiatives and promotes actions to achieve improved financial performance and outcomes.
  • Presents to SAMG and SAHS governance, and Trinity Home Office finance leadership team, on an as needed basis.
  • Works closely with the Trinity Home Office Physician Network VP, Finance and VP, Operations in executing plans and initiatives on PN performance and accountability.
  • Responsibility for calculating and ensuring timely processing of monthly PSA payments.
  • Coordinating and participating as a member of the SAMG Leadership Council Finance Committee, financial leadership and support for Canyon County Leadership Committee and other councils as deemed appropriate.
  • Review of information sent to finance for journal entry preparation including related to unbudgeted transfers, primary care occupancy smoothing.
  • Level 5 approver of Lawson.
  • NHSC support to the recruitment department.
  • Finance review and approval authority for SAMG-related PCR's sent to CCOIC.
