VP, Enterprise Architecture

Bridge Specialty Group•Plano, TX

About The Position

Brown & Brown is seeking a VP, Enterprise Architecture to build and lead its enterprise architecture practice. This founding leadership role establishes the practice, builds the team, defines the target state, and shapes how architecture partners with delivery. The VP leads enterprise architects across domains, business architecture, and architecture governance, and is accountable for the enterprise target state, standards framework, and consistent architecture processes. The role also defines the matrixed relationship with architects embedded in delivery. The VP recruits and develops the architecture team, establishes the practice’s operating model and credibility with delivery and business leadership, and makes the case for architecture investment. The role owns enterprise target-state architecture, transition states, standards, architecture processes, and the alignment of domain roadmaps. It leads domain architects, arbitrates cross-domain decisions, and develops career paths across the discipline. The role is accountable for the enterprise approach to technical debt and application rationalization, maintaining practical governance and measurable progress. As an executive partner, the VP advises the CITO, SVP, and business segment leaders; communicates architecture’s business consequences; partners with data, transformation, AI, and emerging technology organizations; and represents architecture in executive technology forums and investment reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of progressive technology experience.
  • 5+ years leading architects or architecture teams, including hiring and developing senior technologists.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing or substantially rebuilding an enterprise architecture practice.
  • Credible breadth across technology domains.
  • Demonstrated experience defining enterprise target-state architecture and translating it into funded, sequenced roadmaps.
  • Track record of architecture functions that partnered with delivery rather than operating as a review gate.
  • Insurance, brokerage, or financial services experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating acquired organizations onto enterprise platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, and develop the architecture team across domain, business, and governance roles.
  • Define the architecture operating model, including cadence, forums, decision rights, and engagement with delivery.
  • Establish the practice’s credibility with delivery and business leadership, make the case for architecture investment, and sequence hiring against high-value gaps.
  • Own enterprise target-state architecture across domains and the transition states connecting current reality to it.
  • Own the standards framework and ensure it is applied consistently.
  • Ensure domain roadmaps contribute to a coherent enterprise direction, while allowing standards to flex where operating models genuinely differ.
  • Own the architecture process from target state through design and clarify leadership responsibilities across enterprise, domain, platform, and solution architects.
  • Reconcile unconstrained and constrained roadmaps with delivery, the PMO, and Finance, making trade-offs visible.
  • Set the matrixed relationship with platform and solution architects embedded in delivery.
  • Lead domain enterprise architects as peers, setting enterprise direction while maintaining their accountability for their domains.
  • Arbitrate cross-domain trade-offs and boundary disputes.
  • Promote partnership with delivery and build career paths and bench strength across the architecture discipline.
  • Own the enterprise position on technical debt and application rationalization, supported by architecture governance.
  • Keep governance lightweight enough for delivery teams to follow and hold the organization accountable for measurable reductions in constraining debt and duplication.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CITO, the SVP, and business segment leadership.
  • Translate architecture into business consequences, including risk, cost, speed, and optionality.
  • Partner with the Chief Data Office, Transformation Office & AI, and Emerging Technology to clarify ownership and prevent duplication.
  • Represent architecture in executive technology forums and investment reviews.
