About The Position

This position is a senior-level strategic leader responsible for driving Banner Health's growth through mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, and joint ventures. This role leads the identification, evaluation, and execution of strategic transactions across health system operations and diversified services, managing the complete deal lifecycle from pipeline development through post-close integration. The position requires building and maintaining strategic relationships with internal and external partners while leading a team of corporate development professionals. This leader will work closely with Banner's Senior Leadership Team to develop and execute growth strategies that align with organizational objectives and expand Banner's network of care.

Requirements

  • Must possess a knowledge as normally obtained through the completion of a Master's Degree in Business, Health Services Administration, or a related field.
  • Ten years of progressive experience in corporate development, mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, or related fields within healthcare or complex organizations.
  • Must demonstrate proven track record of driving strategic and performance outcomes and accomplishing organizational goals.
  • Experience in anticipating and responding to the needs of internal and external customers required.
  • Proven experience in leading fiscally sound, profitable, efficient, and responsible operations for large multi-faceted divisions.
  • Strong financial and business acumen with knowledge of budgeting and forecasting methodologies.
  • Skilled in effectively engaging management level staff, employees, and stakeholders to build partnerships, achieve strategic initiatives, and attain organizational goals.
  • Ability to construct new and innovative solutions for complex and varying problems and situations.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching management level staff by providing open and honest feedback that results in enhanced performance outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic goals and initiatives that demonstrate strong commitment to organizational success.
  • Skilled in effectively allocating resources to accomplish organizational goals and quickly assessing and assimilating organizational and industry financial dynamics to make appropriate decisions and act quickly on new initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare mergers and acquisitions, including hospital systems, ambulatory services, post-acute care, or health plans preferred.
  • MBA or advanced degree in healthcare administration, finance, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with transaction modeling, valuation methodologies, and integration management preferred.
  • Established relationships within the healthcare industry and investment community preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, recommends, and applies transaction criteria while tracking continuous review of national opportunities for acquisitions, partnerships, and joint ventures; prioritizes work plans aligned to strategic growth targets and identifies meaningful opportunities that advance Banner's mission.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and completes comprehensive due diligence on strategic growth opportunities including potential mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and divestiture opportunities; negotiates and drives closure of transactions while interpreting impact on Banner's operations and strategic positioning.
  • Manages all aspects of transaction development analytics including targeting, valuation, pro forma development in partnership with finance, and transaction structuring in partnership with legal; prepares executive summaries and board materials related to transactions and tracks results with look-back analyses to capture lessons learned.
  • Collaborates with Strategic Planning to understand Banner's enterprise, markets, and environment to identify new growth opportunities; estimates business impact of strategic initiatives and prepares recommendations for Senior Leadership Team while developing plans for leveraging organizational resources.
  • Partners with leaders across acute, ambulatory, post-acute, Banner Plans & Networks, and physician services to evaluate, structure, and close deals that grow meaningful revenue and expand the network of care; builds new businesses that create value in partnership with other leading health systems when appropriate.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers strategies that enable multiple departments to work concurrently, ensuring functional, efficient, and seamless integration with a unified approach to achieving objectives; develops success milestones and metrics aligned with transaction value drivers.
  • Builds and maintains strong internal and external relationships with key strategic partners including investors, consulting agencies, bankers, and industry leaders to increase opportunities and further Banner's national reputation as an innovative and trusted partner.
  • Leads both internal and external relationships to ensure successful post-close integration, delivering on all acquisition objectives; involves and coordinates with related Banner site and service leadership to ensure alignment, pressure test projections, and ensure smooth onboarding post-transaction.
