About The Position

Heritage Financial Credit Union is seeking a VP - Commercial Lending Officer to drive commercial lending growth. This role involves developing strong client relationships, structuring lending solutions, and achieving departmental goals while adhering to credit union policies. The ideal candidate will have an established book of business within the credit union's field of membership (Orange, Ulster, and Dutchess Counties in NY, and Pike County in PA). Responsibilities include managing the commercial loan portfolio, underwriting C&I and commercial real estate loans, negotiating terms, approving/declining loans within authority, managing reporting, and collaborating with retail banking teams for business development. The position emphasizes providing exceptional member experience and adhering to the credit union's Vision, Mission, and Values.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree, or achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree.
  • Working knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) requirements and compliance.
  • Knowledge of Commercial/Business Lending, Consumer Lending, Commercial Underwriting, Loan Servicing, and general economic conditions and competitor’s rates and terms.
  • 5+ years of similar or related experience working in commercial lending.
  • Experience with an established book of business in Heritage Financial Credit Union’s field of membership (Orange, Ulster, and Dutchess Counties in NY and Pike Counties in PA).
  • Knowledge of the market and key contacts within the field of membership.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining an active professional presence within the field of membership.
  • Engaging regularly with businesses, community groups, and civic organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a commercial loan portfolio and member relationships in alignment with the credit union's Vision, Mission, and Values.
  • Achieve goals established in the Commercial Lending Department’s annual budgeting plan.
  • Coordinate tasks within the department and with other credit union departments.
  • Comply with operating policies and procedures for the credit analysis and approval process.
  • Respond to referrals and requests adhering to established SLAs.
  • Support Retail teams in business development efforts.
  • Develop, originate, manage, and underwrite C&I loans and commercial real estate loans.
  • Establish and negotiate loan terms, including pricing, structure, repayment, and collateral.
  • Approve and decline loans within lending authority and provide recommendations for loans above authority.
  • Manage monthly tickler reports and complete monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting.
  • Ensure timely collection of required documentation and financials.
  • Review, recommend, and implement commercial lending policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of HFCU’s Commercial Lending Policies and ensure compliance.
  • Assist in the supervision, performance monitoring, development, and evaluations of the commercial credit analyst.
  • Work closely with the retail team and Business Development Manager to strengthen referral activity and enhance client experience.
  • Mentor team members on business development, relationship management, and basic lending concepts.
  • Attend department and Credit Union meetings, present summary information, and participate in discussions.
  • Periodically visit Borrowers, perform site visits, and promote good member experience.
  • Participate in business development events.
  • Cross-sell commercial products and services.
  • Perform tasks such as answering inquiries, providing and receiving loan applications and requests, and resolving problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
