About The Position

Sompo has a unique opportunity for a VP, Claims Technical Lead, Workers Comp in our North America Insurance Claims team. Reporting to VP, IPG Workers Comp and General Liability Claims, this position will manage the day-to-day operations of the Workers’ Compensation claims team for Sompo. The successful candidate will supervise the internal Sompo TPA oversight claims team, manage TPAs who handle claims on Sompo’s behalf, and work closely with internal and external business partners. This position will be based out of our Irvine, CA, Los Angeles, CA or Charlotte, NC office. Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience required in Workers Comp claims handling with a career history of increasing responsibility
  • Management experience within a carrier for a substantial Workers’ Compensation book of business required
  • Strong technical acumen and understanding of Workers’ Compensation claims and related processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish close working relationships with internal and external partners, including underwriting, actuarial, brokers and TPAs
  • Strong analytical, written, and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and people management, marketing, and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide day to day management of the Worker’s Compensation claims team and related systems and processes.
  • Develop, implement and drive effective oversight practices ensuring best in class handling of Workers’ Comp claims for Sompo insureds.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of matters to Underwriting and Senior Management
  • Work closely with Actuary, Cede Re, Underwriting, Operations, Finance to ensure timely reporting on trends, reserves, various claim metrics, etc.
  • Communicate with and support underwriting and other functional groups within the organization.
  • Other duties as required by management
  • Some travel as required
