VP, Business Development - Capture & Growth

Gravitics, IncSeattle, WA
$200,000 - $275,000

About The Position

Gravitics is searching for a VP of Business Development, Capture and Growth to lead the company's pursuit of new business across commercial, civil (NASA), and national security space markets. This is a senior, highly visible role reporting directly to executive leadership, responsible for building and running a full-lifecycle capture and business development function — from market/customer strategy through proposal capture, contract award, and expansion. The ideal candidate combines deep space-industry relationships with hands-on capture management experience across both commercial contracts and government procurement (SBIR/STTR, Space Force, Space Systems Command, NASA, and related agencies). This role is a strategic growth leadership position for someone who wants to help define how a fast-scaling space infrastructure company wins its next chapter of business.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of business development, capture, growth, or related experience within aerospace, defense, space, or another highly technical government contracting environment, including significant leadership-level responsibility.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in business, engineering, aerospace, or a related field; advanced degree preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex pursuits from opportunity identification through contract award, including capture strategy, competitive positioning, teaming, proposal development, and negotiations.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. government space procurement, including experience with organizations such as U.S. Space Force, Space Systems Command, SpaceWERX, NASA, or related agencies.
  • Hands-on experience with government contracting vehicles and acquisition pathways, including FAR-based contracts, OTAs, SBIR/STTR, BAAs, and other competitive government solicitations.
  • Established relationships across the space ecosystem, with the ability to build credibility with government customers, commercial space companies, strategic partners, and industry stakeholders.
  • Commercial business development experience identifying, structuring, and closing partnerships, customer agreements, subcontracts, or other revenue-generating opportunities.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills, with experience coordinating engineering, program management, finance, contracts, and executive stakeholders through complex pursuits.
  • Ability to translate technical capabilities into compelling customer value propositions and win strategies, particularly for sophisticated technical and government audiences.
  • Experience building and managing a multi-year opportunity pipeline, including forecasting, prioritization, qualification, and executive-level go/no-go recommendations.
  • Executive-level communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to represent Gravitics effectively with senior government officials, customers, partners, and at industry events.
  • Ability to travel as needed for customer meetings, industry events, conferences, and government engagements.
  • This role will support programs for U.S. Government customers, including national security and defense-related missions. Candidates must be willing to work on Civil, Commercial, and Defense-related projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or scaling a business development/capture function is strongly preferred, including establishing processes, tools, metrics, and eventually developing a team.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a multi-year business development pipeline across commercial space station customers, national security space, and civil space (NASA) opportunities.
  • Lead capture strategy. Own capture management for priority pursuits — competitive assessment, win strategy, teaming and partnership decisions, pricing-to-win input, and go/no-go recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Drive proposals to award. Lead cross-functional proposal teams (engineering, program management, finance, contracts) to develop compelling, compliant, and competitive proposals for SBIR/STTR, other-transaction agreements (OTAs), FAR-based contracts, and commercial agreements.
  • Build government relationships. Cultivate and maintain relationships with key government stakeholders (U.S. Space Force/Space Systems Command, SpaceWERX, NASA, and other relevant agencies), tracking upcoming solicitations, BAAs, and funding opportunities relevant to Gravitics' product lines.
  • Grow commercial partnerships. Develop and expand relationships with commercial space station operators, launch providers, and other space infrastructure players, identifying opportunities for module sales, subcontracts, and strategic partnerships.
  • Shape market strategy. Work with the executive team to define target markets, customer segmentation, and competitive positioning as the space station and in-space infrastructure market matures.
  • Represent Gravitics externally. Serve as a company spokesperson at industry conferences, government forums, and customer meetings; build Gravitics' visibility and reputation as a trusted partner in commercial and government space infrastructure.
  • Build the function. As an early senior BD hire, help establish BD/capture processes, tools, and (over time) a growing team to support the company's scale-up.
  • Inform product and roadmap decisions. Translate customer and market intelligence into input for product, pricing, and roadmap decisions in partnership with engineering and program leadership.
