About The Position

Snohomish County Elections is seeking dedicated individuals to serve as Voter Registration Assistants for the upcoming November General Election. This role is ideal for those with flexible schedules looking for short-term employment, who enjoy community interaction and meeting new people. Responsibilities include high-volume data entry, customer service via phone and in-person, voter registration, and various clerical tasks related to voter registration and election ballots. The work schedule and duration are variable, depending on election volume, and flexibility is essential due to the unpredictable nature of election cycles. This position operates in an office environment and potentially at Accessible Voting Sites.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of office experience including basic computer skills and data entry.
  • One (1) year of experience in customer service.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be available during specific election periods (October 12 through November 6 for Voter Registration Assistants, and October 30 through November 3 for Accessible Voting Site Assistants).
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • If assigned to an Accessible Voting Site, must have a valid Washington State driver's license.
  • If using a personal vehicle for an Accessible Voting Site, must provide proof of current registration and insurance, be able to accommodate a passenger, and transport three (3) ballot tubs.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic computer and database skills.
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques and practices.
  • Knowledge of rules of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to learn, retain, and follow detailed, complex instructions.
  • Ability to follow oral and written procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with superiors and peers.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment and make decisions within the scope of assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Follow applicable federal, state, and local election laws and county elections division policies and procedures.
  • Access and accurately update the Voter Registration Database.
  • Process voter registration forms and online work queues correctly and efficiently.
  • Assist in-person, phone, or email customers with voter registration and election questions.
  • Prepare materials for mailing.
  • Process voter file orders.
  • Maintain appropriate audit logs and ballot security processes.
  • Compare scanned ballot envelope signatures to voter's registration signature (if assigned).
  • Assist in opening and closing remote Accessible Voting Sites (if assigned).
  • Deliver election materials to remote Accessible Voting Sites (if assigned).
  • Provide in-person assistance to voters at remote Accessible Voting Sites (if assigned).
  • Accept voted ballots, register voters, and provide ballots for voters at the main county campus or Accessible Voting Sites.
