About The Position

The Outreach Team is a premier national field firm partnering with organizations to solve significant societal problems. This role focuses on promoting abortion access and reproductive freedom. The organization emphasizes its people-powered approach, effective campaigns driven by diverse, talented teams, and investment in staff well-being. The Field Director will be responsible for recruiting, training, and managing a team of local canvassers to engage voters at their doors regarding reproductive rights. This role requires leading by example through active canvassing, communicating goals to staff, and managing campaign reporting. The position is located in Metro St. Louis and Metro Kansas City, with a preference for local candidates, and begins at the start of September for the midterm campaign cycle.

Requirements

  • Leadership experience; ability to motivate, grow, and manage a large team.
  • Eagerness to lead from the front and canvass several days a week.
  • Extreme attention to detail and a proven ability to instill that quality in others.
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong passion for community organizing and fostering civic engagement.
  • Track record of equity and inclusion.
  • Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience running paid canvasses or managing paid employees.
  • Familiarity with VAN and MiniVAN.
  • Experience working in underserved or marginalized communities.
  • Facilitation experience.
  • Local knowledge/experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 15–20 hourly staff who will canvass door to door to talk to voters about defending reproductive rights.
  • Canvass yourself several days a week to train staff and drive office goals.
  • Set goals and hold staff accountable to them.
  • Train and provide ongoing motivation and support to staff.
  • Identify, promote, and train a leadership team.
  • Build a diverse team where staff feel respected while fostering a culture of equity and justice.
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure the integrity of the work.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all staff.
  • Develop strategic plans to reach targeted voters in assigned locations.
  • Manage administrative duties, including reporting data, record keeping, processing payroll, and distribution of materials.
