About The Position

Dierksen Hospice is seeking volunteers to bring joy, comfort, and support to patients and their loved ones. Volunteer opportunities include direct patient interaction, behind-the-scenes administrative support, and sharing personal talents. Volunteers support the hospice mission by helping provide dignity, peace, and human connection in addition to medical care. Volunteers are not paid employees and receive no compensation for their time.

Nice To Haves

• A certified and vaccinated therapy pet is needed for the Pet Therapy Volunteer opportunity; hospice experience is not needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide administrative and organizational support, including light data entry, assembling packets, and sending cards to family members.
• Organize special memories for patients and sew memory bears or blankets.
• Visit patients to offer companionship and give caregivers a break through activities such as reading, hobbies, playing games, and listening.
• Visit patients with a certified, vaccinated therapy pet to provide joy and emotional support.
• Share musical talents to comfort patients and bring happiness to patients and healthcare staff.
• Connect with fellow veterans, provide companionship, and participate in meaningful ceremonies for veteran patients.
