About The Position

Hospice of the West is seeking volunteers to support patients, families, caregivers, and staff through a range of opportunities suited to different skills and interests. Volunteers may provide direct companionship to patients, assist the care team with administrative and organizational tasks, share music or certified pet therapy, or connect with veteran patients. Volunteers are not paid employees and receive no compensation for their time.

Requirements

• Have a heart for serving others and appreciate the hospice mission.
• Demonstrate compassion, empathy, and deep respect for individuals and their unique journeys.
• Welcome and value people of all backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs.
• Pass background check requirements.
• Pet therapy volunteers must have a certified and vaccinated pet.
• Hospice experience is not required for pet therapy volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Provide administrative and organizational support, including light data entry, assembling packets, and sending cards to family members.
• Organize special memories for patients and sew memory bears or blankets.
• Visit patients to provide companionship and give caregivers a break through activities such as reading, hobbies, games, and listening.
• Visit patients with a certified, vaccinated therapy pet to provide joy and emotional support.
• Share music with patients and healthcare staff to provide comfort and enjoyment.
• Connect with fellow veterans, provide companionship, and participate in meaningful ceremonies for veteran patients.
