About The Position

This position serves as a Volunteer Center Specialist for the Division of Blind Services’ Braille and Talking Books Library, located in Daytona Beach, Florida. This is an entry-level role, working under the direct supervision of the Library Services Supervisor – SES, Braille and Talking Book Library, Production Services Section. The specialist provides support toward the goals of the Library and agency leadership by communicating with internal and external stakeholders, with a primary focus on audio materials production. The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has an open position that is responsible for executing various functions related to volunteer services and audio production.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of audio production, recording, or communications experience.
  • A thorough understanding of the services of the Bureau of Braille and Talking Book Library and the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled.
  • Competency in technology and proficiency in or ability to learn digital recording and editing software.
  • Ability to train others on current processes and protocols.
  • Knowledge of the Hindenburg Audio Book Creator Program (or a similar audio software program).
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to produce accurate and high-quality work.
  • Knowledge of organization, including skills associated with organizing work tasks, setting priorities, and managing multiple work assignments and projects simultaneously.
  • Must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities, and maintain goal-directed behavior and performance sometimes under stressful conditions.
  • Must interact courteously with others.
  • Performance and behavior must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and morale of the unit.
  • Attendance is an essential function.
  • Undergo Level 2 background screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.
  • Male applicants born on or after October 1, 1962, must be registered with the Selective Service System (SSS) before their 26th birthday, or have a Letter of Registration Exemption from the SSS.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of recorded materials (paying close attention to quality and timeliness) which may include but is not limited to: editing completed recording sessions including locally recorded materials, and commercial audio from NLS, monitoring recording sessions, and reviewing and correcting recording sessions as needed.
  • Interact daily with the volunteer narrators, monitors and reviewers and assist if needed.
  • Assist in creating materials for training on studio equipment and software.
  • Assist with training staff or volunteers as needed.
  • Communicate with the studio coordinator and the Production Supervisor, keeping them informed on current projects and any issues that may occur.
  • Attend departmental meetings as requested.
  • Be familiar with NLS policies as it pertains to recorded material prepared for BARD.
  • Attend training offered by NLS and stay current on processes and protocols.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

  • Annual Leave - All full-time Career Service employees filling established positions earn annual leave in varying increments dependent upon years of creditable service.
