About The Position

Tooele City Volunteer Fire Department is seeking individuals to join their team committed to saving lives and protecting property. This is a volunteer opportunity focused on service and honor. Since 1919, Tooele City's fire protection has been provided primarily by volunteers. The department maintains a roster of 55 active First-Class Volunteer Firefighters, with many serving for decades and transitioning to a senior roster. Volunteer firefighters are characterized by their work ethic, commitment to protecting life, safety, property, and the environment, and dedication to professionalism and ongoing training. The department also boasts a strong fire prevention program and vital community outreach initiatives. They meet weekly on Wednesday evenings for business meetings or training and respond to calls within the City and for mutual aid. There are currently 7 openings, with the aim to also build a roster for the upcoming year.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old in the next six months.
  • Must live within Tooele City limits.
  • Must be committed to becoming Firefighter I and II certified (department sponsors training).
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must possess and maintain a Utah Driver License and driving record that meets Tooele City's insurance and risk management standards.
  • Must be capable of performing the physical aspects of the job, as demonstrated in the Physical Agility Course.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to calls for service within the City and when mutual aid is needed.
  • Participate in weekly meetings or training on Wednesday evenings.
  • Engage in fire prevention activities and community outreach.
  • Maintain a commitment to ongoing training and professional development.
  • Pass a background check and adhere to the code of conduct.
  • Participate in the Physical Agility Course Demonstration.
  • Complete a written exam and oral interviews.
  • Potentially undergo additional background checks and provide further information if selected.
  • Adhere to City policies and procedures.
  • Obtain specific training relevant to the assigned volunteer position.
