About The Position

Tooele City's fire protection has been provided primarily by volunteers since 1919. The department carries a roster of 55 active First-Class Volunteer Firefighters, with many serving for decades and moving to a senior roster. As volunteer firefighters, members are proud of their work ethic, committed to protecting life, safety, property, and the environment, and answer the call when needed. They are committed to serving the City with professionalism and ongoing training. The department also boasts one of the best fire prevention programs in Utah, with outreach programs vital for community education. Weekly meetings are held on Wednesday evenings for business or training, and members respond to calls for service within the City and provide mutual aid when needed. There are currently 7 openings, and the department aims to create a roster for the upcoming year.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old in the next six months.
  • Must live within Tooele City limits.
  • Must be committed to becoming Firefighter I and II certified (department sponsors training and certification).
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must commit to maintaining the code of conduct.
  • Must possess and maintain a Utah Driver License.
  • Must maintain a driving record that meets Tooele City's insurance and risk management standards.
  • Must be capable of performing the physical aspects of the job, as demonstrated in the Physical Agility Course Demonstration.
  • Must successfully complete the physical agility test.
  • Must successfully complete a written exam.
  • Must successfully complete an oral interview with a board of five.
  • Must successfully interview with the Fire Chiefs.
  • Must follow the City's policies and procedures.
  • May be required to obtain specific training relevant to the assigned volunteer position.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to calls for service within the City.
