About The Position

Volunteers are essential in our efforts to eliminate homelessness and reduce poverty. The Volunteer Engagement Team is designed to recruit, train and support volunteers on behalf of The Mustard Seed program teams. The Volunteer Engagement Worker (Canada Summer Job) will be responsible for assisting the volunteer coordinators in training volunteers and facilitating programs.

Requirements

  • Passion for fostering a deeper understanding of poverty and homelessness in churches and the community
  • Empathy for the poor and a desire for greater understanding concerning poverty and justice issues in an urban center
  • Completing post-secondary studies in ministry, social work, education, community development, youth and childcare studies, or a related program
  • Strong computer, communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong team building and leadership skills
  • Between the ages of 18 - 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Not a member of the Immediate Family of the Employer or a member of the Immediate Family of an officer or director of the Employer

  • Interest and skills in recreational activities such as sports or gardening is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Be the first point of contact for volunteers; creating a welcoming atmosphere and a culture of hospitality.
  • Maintaining and supporting volunteer roles
  • Maintaining and inputting information into volunteer database
  • Working with staff and volunteers to ensure donations are sorted and organized appropriately for our program areas.
  • Support the dignity of our guests by seeking to identify their needs in a respectful manner.
  • Be a supportive and proactive teammate to fellow support staff.
  • Attend meetings and training as assigned.
  • Respect proper boundaries with guests.
  • Support the ministry within the Mustard Seed Community and act as a positive Mustard Seed ambassador.
  • Other duties as assigned.
