About The Position

Recruit, train, evaluate, maintain and recognize Kentucky Humane Society volunteers who are vital to the mission, programs, and community engagement.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of management or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates positive leadership skills and the ability to positively influence volunteers to effectively meet the needs of the organization.
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge software preferred.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with people of all backgrounds and personalities.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to prepare reports and maintain an efficient records system.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently/meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment with little direct supervision.
  • Ability to manage the emotional aspect of end-of-life service and humane euthanasia, and support staff in high-emotion circumstances.
  • Accept, support, and represent KHS core values, programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record and be willing to drive KHS vehicles.
  • Background Check required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day coordination and growth of the volunteer program.
  • Conduct orientations and training to prospective volunteers to increase their understanding of the organization, its clients, its services, and the roles and responsibilities of volunteers.
  • Coordinate volunteers when starting in new roles and lead their training once placed in a program.
  • Provide oversight of volunteers, including disciplinary action, conflict resolution, and possibly termination.
  • Work with staff across various departments to identify volunteer opportunities and recruit, train, and supervise volunteers.
  • Provide training and support to staff across various departments to promote positive volunteer/staff relationships.
  • Oversee the intern program for the Outreach Team and assist other departments with attracting interns.
  • Assist with the coordination and supervision of adult group/corporate service projects.
  • Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities.
  • Coordinate Student Service Project Hours including approving student hours through Mobile Serve, sending hour verification letters, facilitating major donations drop-offs, and further stewardship.
  • Ensure volunteer manuals and training materials are up-to-date and accessible by both staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee VolunteerHub software to organize volunteer orientation, training, and scheduling.
  • Process/enter volunteer memberships in Raiser’s Edge (RE) and run charges.
  • Manage and moderate the volunteer Facebook page.
  • Document volunteer interactions in development database (Raiser’s Edge).
  • Ensure compliance with and keep accurate and secure records of liability waivers and safety protocol for volunteers.
  • Design volunteer program t-shirt, maintain inventory and process orders.
  • Process Purchase Orders according to established procedures and maintain inventory of all departmental supplies (aprons, nametags, leashes, lanyards, first aid hits, cleaning supplies, etc.).
  • Coordinate the schedule for the weekly Photo Volunteers and oversee photo uploads to Flickr/Petpoint.
  • Assist with special event logistics, planning, and execution as needed.
  • Assist with the creation and adherence of the annual budget of department revenues and expenses.
  • Provide monthly reports to direct report.
  • Write monthly volunteer e-newsletter and other email communications to volunteers and prepare for sending via development database’s (Raiser’s Edge) mass email function.
  • Attend monthly Kentuckiana Association of Volunteer Administrator (KAVA) local chapter meetings and other networking opportunities as requested.
  • Complete stewardship, tours, lunches, and other meetings as identified by direct report.
  • Participate in managers meetings and team building activities.
  • Communicate with People Services Director regarding unusual activities, significant problems or concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned.
