About The Position

HandsOn San Diego (HOSD), fiscally sponsored by Mission Edge San Diego, is a volunteer-powered organization with 2 full-time staff members that creates opportunities for people to volunteer and lead in their communities. We work with local nonprofits, schools and parks to identify ongoing and one-time group volunteer projects that are accessible via an online project calendar. The Volunteer Engagement Manager is a key member of HandsOn San Diego, a volunteer-powered organization that creates opportunities for people to volunteer and lead in their communities. In this role, they help grow and sustain the volunteers, College Corps Fellows, Volunteer Leaders, and nonprofit partners.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers
• Experience with Salesforce and/or Google Workspace
• Comfortable working with databases and learning new software
• Ability to sort and compartmentalize files, items, and ideas
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
• Work with a high level of integrity and transparency
• Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to donors, volunteers and the overall community
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff, volunteers, and Advisory Board members as needed

Responsibilities

• Support current nonprofit partners and maintain ongoing communication to ensure success of current projects and establish new opportunities
• Research, recruit, and onboard new nonprofit partners
• Review, edit, and publish new volunteer opportunity submissions
• Coordinate project planning and implementation of volunteer and community events, including procurement of project supplies, on-site volunteer management, and facilitation of reflection activities.
• Maintain timely and effective communication with volunteers and volunteer groups as they relate to their volunteer experience including regular communication about available volunteer opportunities
• Provide technical support with volunteer accounts as needed and respond promptly to volunteer inquiries
• Screen, onboard, and supervise internal volunteers and volunteer leaders
• Manage and oversee recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluations of College Corps Fellows during their school year terms
• Manage and implement the President’s Volunteer Service Award program when available
• Assist in the development and execution of volunteer projects, fundraisers, or promotions
• Serve as the staff representative on HOSD’s Volunteer Engagement Committee
• When activated in times of disaster, serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers responding at 2-1-1 San Diego’s call center following HOSD’s memorandum of understanding
• Represent HOSD at external functions, including local, regional, and national forums on service and volunteerism
• Represent HOSD at local fairs, festivals, and outreach venues
• Champion volunteer engagement and recognition
• Manage and oversee the Volunteer Opportunity Calendar to ensure accurate and up-to-date information with 2 months posted at a time
• Create and send out weekly email newsletters via Constant Contact to promote volunteer opportunities
• Maintain accurate volunteer recruitment files, activity reports, and database records
• Run monthly reports to collect and compile statistical data (volunteer and impact data)
• Answer emails and support volunteer correspondence while providing a high level of customer service
• Serve as the staff representative on HOSD’s Marketing and Volunteer Engagement Committees
• Prepare annual program evaluation report for Advisory Board, as needed
• Participate in strategic planning and program development
• Collaborate with the Board and HOSD committees to facilitate cross-team collaboration and learning, promote volunteer training and leadership development, develop new program models and business processes that advance strategic priorities, and maximize impact
• Other duties as assigned
