About The Position

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for all program activity support in relation to volunteers for the San Francisco HICAP program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social service, health care or related field; or college degree with a minimum of three years of experience working in senior services.
  • Must complete HICAP counselor registration within 2 months of employment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, and experience in group presentations.
  • Must be sensitive to the needs of the elderly from diverse ethnic and minority cultures.
  • Must be self-motivated, organized, and able to multitask under minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in MS Office and the Internet.
  • Must have and maintain a valid CA driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Health Care Delivery Systems, Medicare, Medi-Cal, Medi-Gap, managed care and long-term care insurance is highly preferred
  • Prior counseling experience is also preferred.
  • Prior counseling experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and other languages is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Performs primary recruiting and screening responsibilities for new volunteer counselors.
  • Provides follow-up during internship and initial placement of candidates successful in completing the New Counselor Training; provides ongoing educational support for volunteer counselors.
  • Provides on-site observation of and technical assistance for HICAP volunteer counselors.
  • Schedules community educators for volunteer in-service training in collaboration with the Program Manager.
  • Performs all duties necessary to assist the Program Manager in ensuring program compliance with its contractual obligations regarding the volunteer component of the program, i.e., counselor registrations, training, and data tracking.
  • Maintains and updates related reports and forms in counselors’ files as well as tracking service hours in the Peerplace system; keeps all data entry current.
  • Substitutes for volunteers at counseling sites when necessary.
  • Distributes HICAP outreach materials to counseling sites; identifies needs for additional outreach materials (which may include brochures, informational pamphlets, press releases, announcements, flyers, posters, and signs) and assists with their development in appropriate languages.
  • Conducts presentations and participates in public media events as assigned.
  • Organizes and participates in Enrollment Events.
  • Organizes with the manager the monthly volunteer meeting.
  • Updates HICAP SF charts as needed (e.g., Medicare Advantage, Low Income, etc.).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
