About The Position

Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager, the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of Cecil County Public Library’s volunteer program for youth and adults. Works collaboratively with branch, outreach, and support services staff and community members to recruit, screen, onboard, train, and retain volunteers who support CCPL’s mission.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of job-related experience required, preferably in a non-profit or local government agency field.
  • Demonstrated exceptional organizational skills, judgment, poise, tact, integrity, and flexibility.
  • Strong interpersonal and community skills with the ability to engage diverse community members.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate events with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of advanced clerical and administrative practices and procedures.
  • Experience with a systems-thinking approach.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in technology, Microsoft Office 365, including Teams, Word, Excel, Power Point and online collaboration technology, such as SharePoint.
  • Ability to analyze and perform a wide variety of advanced administrative support projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle changing priorities and confidential information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to reach, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel to all branches within Cecil County during the work day.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and oversees the full lifecycle of the volunteer relationship from recruitment to onboarding, training, and ongoing strategic engagement and retention.
  • Create, implement, and maintain volunteer manual to educate volunteers on library services, customer service expectations, and their critical role in supporting CCPL’s mission and adhering to policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact between branch, outreach, and support services staff and volunteers providing day-to-day support and guidance.
  • Responds to volunteers’ requests, questions, and concerns and escalates to the Human Resources Manager, if needed.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date volunteer records including contact information, assignments, and service history.
  • Tracks and records volunteer hours.
  • Plans, coordinates, and facilitates the Library’s Annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast, including logistics, invitations, and catering arrangements in coordination with support services staff.
  • Manages CCPL’s Volunteer Cecil profile and coordinates volunteer programs in collaboration with community partners.
  • Attends and represents CCPL at volunteer recruitment events.
  • Takes a proactive approach to solving routine and non-routine office issues.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
