About The Position

Under the direction of the Hospice Clinical Manager, the Coordinator, Hospice Volunteer and Bereavement Program is responsible for the day to day management, coordination, and oversight of the volunteer and grief support services provided by UnityPoint Hospice. Main duties of the volunteer and bereavement programs include but are not limited to: recruitment, training, assigning and supervision of all volunteers. Additional bereavement duties include oversight of required bereavement activities such as grief mailings and programs to support the grief process. Provides oversight and management of adjunct support therapies such as massage, music or other programs that function to support the hospice patient and their support structure.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a strong and a thriving volunteer work force.
  • Demonstrates ability to successfully recruit and retain engaged and qualified volunteers
  • Provides volunteers with guidance, encouragement and coaching
  • Develops and implements a robust training program
  • Conducts both classroom and in-home training and supervision
  • Maintains open lines of communication with volunteers and patients and family members to ensure that a high level of care and compassion is provided
  • Demonstrates a culture of celebration and recognition of our volunteers and the programs they support
  • Demonstrates competency to counsel volunteers on how to complete duties better and provides corrective action or releases volunteers who are not meeting expectations
  • Ensures all administrative, regulatory, and operational responsibilities are performed accurately and timely.
  • Demonstrates organizational skills to successfully manage multiple priorities in a complex work environment
  • Assigns, coordinates, schedules, and supervises all volunteers in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team (IDT) and the identified needs for volunteer and bereavement services
  • Responsible for all volunteer documents, including patient records, training hours, and other required documentation
  • Responsible for coordination in collaboration with pastoral care staff of all required and hospice specific bereavement functions including but not limited to mailings, various touchpoint activities, and support program offerings
  • Ensures volunteers are trained appropriately to document per established policies
  • Participates as a member of the IDT
  • Collaborates with other members of the care team regarding patient care and bereavement support
  • Maintains required records and competencies for all volunteers
  • Demonstrates multiple ways to communicate with volunteer staff
  • Performs activities to assess ongoing evaluation of volunteers assignment and performance
  • Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills
  • Develops and maintains a robust hospice program specific to support hospice program growth and other adjunct support therapies for the hospice patient and their support system.
  • Responsible for the administrative, regulatory, and operational aspects related to any support therapies used in the program such as but not limited to massage and music.
  • Routinely networks and environmentally scan the hospice industry for best practices of volunteer, bereavement and other supportive programs.
  • Organizes or assists with and participates in community events (education, health fairs, marketing, publicity, fund raising, grief programs)
