About The Position

As a middle school volleyball scorekeeper, you are an essential part of the officiating team, ensuring the match runs smoothly, fairly, and accurately. Scorekeepers work closely with the game referee, athletic director and the after school activities coordinator to support the overall mission of the school.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A basic understanding of FUSD's middle school rules, scoring symbols, and rotations is required.
  • Ability to focus in a fast-paced, loud gymnasium environment without missing in-game actions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with coaches, athletes, and referees during dead balls.
  • Must hold a valid, up-to-date fingerprint clearance card for the state of Arizona.
  • Must clear standard youth-protection background checks required by the school district.
  • Arrive on-site at least 15-20 minutes prior to match time.
  • Commit to scheduled weekday afternoon matches as assigned by the athletic director.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods at the scorer's table.
  • Valid, up-to-date fingerprint clearance card

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from a recognized body (e.g., NFHS, local state athletic association) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive at least 15-20 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
  • Review team rosters and starting lineups.
  • Accurately track and record each point scored on the official scoresheet and flip chart/digital scoreboard.
  • Record and track all team substitutions and timeouts.
  • Notify the game referee of any illegal requests.
  • Record misconduct warnings, penalties (yellow/red cards), and set results.
