Requirements

  • Successful completion of a related apprenticeship program and a Certificate of Apprenticeship with an Interprovincial endorsement.
  • Six to ten years recent relevant experience.
  • Candidates must be committed to a team approach
  • Demonstrate good written and oral English skills and have good interpersonal skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have an exceptional teaching record with demonstrated learner-centred teaching philosophy.
  • Candidates will be comfortable in a computerized environment and demonstrate knowledge of programs relevant to their discipline.
  • The successful applicant will be able to encourage communication between students and faculty.

Nice To Haves

  • An undergraduate degree and post-secondary teaching experience are preferred; however, applicants with an equivalent combination of teaching and work experience may be considered.
  • An Instructor's Diploma or valid BC Teacher's Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment is preferred and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Instructional duties may include any or all of the following: instructional (teaching assignments); course and program preparation and revision; student contact; student advising; evaluation and marking of student work and other functions related to instruction.
  • Professional duties may include any or all of the following: curriculum development, student registration and pre-registration duties.
  • Professional development is activity intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence and technical competence in the area of professional or instructional expertise.
  • Service may include any or all of the following: school visitations; participation on OC committees; attendance at articulation meetings; representing OC at other functions; administrative and other duties.

Benefits

  • Given on-call nature of position, schedule, campus location, and frequency of instruction may vary.
  • Typical instructional day is 7.5 hours long.
  • Typical instructional week is four days and would not exceed 30 hours.
  • Initial on-call contract is setup until Jun 30, 2028 but is not a guarantee of work for the entire contract period.
  • Work can be anywhere from one day to several weeks.
