About The Position

The Vocational Counselor provides vocational services and consultation as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team. This role involves visiting clients in their homes and other required settings, integrating vocational goals and services, and providing assistance through all phases of vocational service provision. The counselor is responsible for performing routine clinical services, charting client services, and contributing to or creating the service plan, ensuring vocational goals are integrated with the tasks of all team members. They are also responsible for ensuring revisions to the plan as participant needs change, advocating for participant rights and preferences, and creating monthly spreadsheets tracking tenant employment status. Follow-up with employed tenants and monthly contact with tenants as needed are also key responsibilities. The role includes participation in bi-weekly meetings and monthly supervision.

Requirements

HS diploma or GED required
Three years’ experience with homeless population
Ability to work with a culturally diverse population
Familiar with Federal, State and Local laws and regulations as they apply to the community residence program and agency policies
Familiar with OMH regulations

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services field preferred
Familiarity of NYC public school system preferred
Experience in residential setting, group work, tenant organization, case management, referral, and/or community outreach strongly preferred

Responsibilities

Responsible for creating the service plan's vocational portion or all of it.
Responsible for integrating vocational goals and services with the tasks of all the team members.
Responsible for ensuring revisions to the plan as the participants’ needs change.
Advocating on the rights and preferences of the participant whenever possible.
Responsible for creating a monthly spreadsheet with names of tenants and their employment status.
Follow-up quarterly with all employed tenants.
Assist with making monthly contact with tenants as needed.
Participate in bi-weekly monthly meeting.
Participate in monthly supervision to address any work-related tasks or concerns.
Other duties as assigned.
