About The Position
The College of DuPage is hiring a seasonal VITA-Income Tax Return Reviewer to supervise the completion of individual income tax returns and review completed returns for accuracy and completeness. The reviewer resolves errors, contacts tax preparers to obtain missing information before electronic submission, and responds to preparer and customer questions during tax preparation. The role also involves researching tax topics, drafting responses to tax correspondence, compiling required documents, and contacting tax authorities as needed. The reviewer must meet IRS training requirements, pass certification exams, and stay current with federal and state tax laws.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Three or more years of recent experience preparing federal and state individual 1040 tax returns for clients or customers using commercial tax preparation software.
- Working knowledge of Circular 230.
- Experience working with the IRS and state tax authorities.
- Proficiency with technology and solid knowledge of computer operations and software.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- CPA designation, with tax preparation experience and extensive knowledge of individual income tax laws.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the completion of individual income tax returns.
