Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news. ABC10, the TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate station in Sacramento, CA, is looking for a full-time Visual Storyteller/Photojournalist. This candidate must thrive working in a fast-paced environment, develop sources and story concepts, shoot, and edit stories on your own or with a member of the ABC10 team. Our ideal candidate is familiar with the latest video equipment to tell visual stories, editing tools, and techniques.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field
  • 1-3 years of experience preferred
  • Clear understanding of the principles of journalism
  • Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems
  • Demonstrated social media proficiency, including an active news gathering on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter)
  • Demonstrated news judgment, writing skills, photography experience, and non-linear editing skills.
  • Must be flexible with schedule, reliable and dependable
  • Knowledge of ENPS, EDIUS, non-linear editing programs, and Axis graphics
  • Must have a valid driver's license, able to lift up to 40 lbs. and occasionally up to 80 lbs. with or without accommodation

Responsibilities

  • Shoots and edits breaking news, general assignments, sports and feature stories for ABC10’s broadcast and digital platforms
  • Be assigned to either work in a team or solo for daily news assignments, working collaboratively with the team to ensure the best content is gathered and published on all platforms
  • Edit broadcasts using non-linear applications (Edius preferred)
  • Must be open to working weekends and varying shifts, depending on daily station coverage needs
  • Ability to multi-task assignments while constantly monitoring quality control
  • Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.
  • Operate live shots with TVU, Dejero, microwave or satellite truck
  • Knowledgeable in advanced lighting skills for broadcast
  • Contact sources and develop news stories
  • Attend editorial meetings, participate in discussions and suggest story ideas
  • Take still photographs
  • Safety consciousness and situational awareness on live shot locations and events
