About The Position

This position is for a Visual Arts Teacher for Junior High School for the 2026-2027 school year. The teacher will be responsible for instructing students, creating a learning atmosphere, and implementing district educational objectives. The role involves direct supervision of students, student teachers, teacher assistants, teacher aides, and volunteer classroom aides. The teacher must adhere to district policies, requisition instructional materials, and communicate with parents and administration.

Requirements

• Valid State of Illinois Professional Educator License with Visual Arts and /or Self-Contained General Education or Required Endorsement.
• Highly proficient in at least one art medium.
• Thoroughly familiar with good Visual Arts methods, literature, and books that pertain to junior high schools.
• Thoroughly familiar with all the art concepts and the teaching techniques thereof.
• Demonstrated capabilities in leadership, public and community relations, and academic competence.
• Applicant must possess effective behavior management skills.
• Applicant must be able to structure a classroom to maximize student learning.
• Applicant must be able to establish effective communication skills with a variety of stakeholders.
• Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
• Ability to compose correspondence, reports, and/or other required written materials.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints.
• Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others.
• Ability to perform basic math using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals consistent with the duties of this position.

• Seek assistance from building-level administration and/or the Coordinator of Fine Arts, as may be necessary, in case of behavioral problems.
• Keep accurate records for each child as may be required by the Coordinator of Fine Arts, the Principal, and the District.
• Requisition through the Office of the Coordinator of Fine Arts instructional materials and supplies as they are required, per Fine Arts department guidelines.
• Attend meetings called by the Coordinator of Fine Arts or Principal(s).
• Attend Fine Arts department events as assigned by the Coordinator of Fine Arts.
• Follow all Fine Arts Department guidelines and procedures as outlined by the Coordinator of Fine Arts.
• Conduct ongoing professional communication with parents of students, including parent-teacher conferences.
• Assume other responsibilities and duties as may be assigned by the Coordinator of Fine Arts in keeping with the policies of District 86.
• Participate in in-service training programs authorized by the District Superintendent.
• Participate in workshops and clinics as assigned by the Coordinator of Fine Arts.
• Develop and prepare a personal plan for continued professional growth.
• Seek assistance from the Coordinator of Fine Arts, Principal(s), other Administrators, Fine Arts Faculty peers, consultants, or other specialists to improve teaching abilities, skills, and management techniques.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Coordinator or Designee.
