About The Position

The Visitor Information Specialist is a part-time role, requiring 18 hours per week, and serves as the first impression of Lexington by representing the brand with professionalism and hospitality. This position welcomes visitors to the Lexington Visitors Center, provides personalized trip planning assistance, and uses in-depth knowledge of Lexington’s attractions and assets to craft unique, memorable itineraries. The role also supports retail operations by assisting visitors with merchandise purchases.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to reliably commute to and from the workplace
  • Ability to work with people in a customer service environment
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office and database entry systems
  • Comfortable using various websites and search engines to help visitors
  • Ability to speak clearly, confidently and with purpose
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discreetness
  • Ability to confidently proofread drafts of collateral material
  • Existing knowledge of Lexington and the Bluegrass Region

Responsibilities

  • Works a minimum of 18 hours per week with Saturday availability required 2 times a month
  • Welcomes visitors to the Visitor Center and assist with trip planning by providing directions and information using both printed materials and digital tools, including booking platforms and other online resources
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of current events and local businesses throughout Lexington and the Bluegrass region through proactive learning
  • Engages with visitors in person, via telephone and website chat bot system. Follows up when necessary
  • Enhances the visitor experience by asking questions and recommending attractions, hotels, restaurants, and experiences in Lexington and the surrounding region
  • Assists visitors with the purchase of merchandise using the point of sale (POS) system, which includes performing sales and register transactions
  • Performs daily cash drawer counts, including comparing POS daily reports with cash counts
  • Maintains Visitors Center floor set standards and conduct regular tidiness checks throughout the day. Communicates to management when items need to be restocked or are low
  • Maintains merchandise & brochure displays so they remain stocked, tidy and visually appealing
  • Maintains records of visitation numbers and visitor data as requested
  • Processes and fulfills daily incoming mail requests, outgoing mail, phone inquiries, and special visitor information requests
  • Assists with the Lexington Hospitality Awards, seasonal Visitors Center events and activations, and other special initiatives
