About The Position

Visitor Experience Assistants promote a welcoming, professional, and engaging gallery environment to visitors at the Ross Art Museum. They help to monitor the gallery and perform tasks that support the promotion and execution of tasks. Assistants will on occasion be asked to help with exhibition installation and de-installation.

All OWU students in any major are eligible to apply.

Ability to act and present professionally when engaging with a diverse public.
Ability to be timely and dependable.
Display reasonable decision-making capacity.
Diligently follow appropriate open and close procedures.
Currently authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

Monitor property to protect art on display and remain alert to report issues.
Acknowledge patrons, provide basic gallery information, assist with directions, and answer questions.
Ensure gallery lights are on, technology is prepared, and cases are clean.
Report maintenance needs or equipment malfunctions to a supervisor.
Educate patrons about gallery rules to support the safety of the work and the enjoyment of other patrons.
Report any altered condition or presentation of works in the gallery to their supervisor.
Attend walk-throughs with curators and training sessions to gain knowledge of OWU's collections.
Serve as frontline data-gatherers by collecting and tallying patron counts and feedback.
Support Museum Staff in tasks related to preparing exhibitions, including patching/painting walls, unpacking/packing artwork, assistance framing, labeling postcards, proofing labels, and communicating via social media.
Maintain personal presentation, arrive on time, clean, and professionally dressed to positively perform job duties.
