About The Position

The Film and Video Production program at Grand Valley State University invites applications for a Visiting Professor of film studies for the 2026–27 academic year, beginning on August 6, 2026. The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester in film studies, related to film history, theory, and/or criticism. The Film & Video Production major, as a discipline within the department of Visual and Media Arts, emphasizes the integration of theory and practice. Requirements

Master’s degree (MA or equivalent) in film studies or a related field.
Demonstrated experience teaching in higher education.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and empathy.

Responsibilities

Teach 12 credits per semester in the Film and Video Production program, related to film history, theory, and/or criticism (normally 4 courses).
Be available outside of class time to meet with students independently as needed through regularly scheduled office hours.
