About The Position

The Film and Video Production program at Grand Valley State University invites applications for a Visiting Professor of film studies for the 2026–27 academic year, beginning on August 6, 2026. The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester in film studies, related to film history, theory, and/or criticism. The Film & Video Production major, as a discipline within the department of Visual and Media Arts, emphasizes the integration of theory and practice. Individuals from all backgrounds, including underrepresented groups, are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree (MA or equivalent) in film studies or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in higher education.

  • Successful candidates must be able to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and community members with a broad range of backgrounds and experiences
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and empathy.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in film studies or a related field (ABD candidates will be considered)
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching in higher education

Responsibilities

  • Teach 12 credits per semester in the Film and Video Production program, related to film history, theory, and/or criticism (normally 4 courses).
  • Be available outside of class time to meet with students independently as needed through regularly scheduled office hours.
