About The Position

Indiana Wesleyan University invites applications for a one-year visiting faculty position in the Department of Psychology on our residential campus in Marion, Indiana. This position may be especially well-suited for an early-career academic psychologist seeking meaningful undergraduate teaching experience within a collaborative and mission-driven Christian higher education context. Applicants should show evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ, full agreement with the Wesleyan-Arminian theology, and commitment to liberal arts learning and the integration of Christian faith and learning. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for undergraduate education, a commitment to mentoring students, and an interest in engaging students in scholarly or applied research experiences. Area of specialization is open. Beginning fall 2026, this is a full-time, one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal depending on departmental needs and institutional priorities.

Requirements

  • According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
  • A doctoral degree in psychology or or a closely related field is required
  • At least one (1) year of higher education teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrates mature personal faith in Jesus Christ and a willingness to embrace the theological and lifestyle commitments of The Wesleyan Church
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to foster effective relationships among colleagues, students, and external partners
  • Excellent organizational and coordination abilities
  • Knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies and techniques
  • Skill in assessing the impact of teaching on student learning and in refining instructional design accordingly
  • Ability to provide clear, constructive, and timely feedback to students in both oral and written forms
  • Proficiency with computers and educational technology, including MS Office, Internet resources, and Learning Management Systems
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Clear and effective verbal expression
  • Capacity to advise, instruct, motivate, and mentor students toward academic and professional excellence, and to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and the public in a professional and Christ-centered manner

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate courses in one’s area of expertise, while also meeting departmental teaching needs
  • Mentoring students in their academic, professional, and spiritual development
  • Developing and sustaining a research agenda that involves undergraduates and contributes to the discipline
  • Collaborating with colleagues in curriculum development and program initiatives
  • Serving the university through committee work, engagement in the broader community, and participation/leadership in state and national professional organizations
