About The Position

The Patricia Doherty Yoder Institute for Ethics and Integrity in Journalism and Media (Yoder Institute) at Duquesne University is seeking a part-time Visiting Media Scholar. Duquesne University, founded over 130 years ago, emphasizes excellence in scholarship and the ethical pursuit of truth in communication across various media fields. The Yoder Institute, established in 2021, focuses on restoring public trust in media through discussions, research, and collaboration. The Visiting Media Scholar will be appointed for a minimum of sixteen weeks, receiving a $10,000 stipend, with potential for relocation expenses and availability for Institute events. An on-campus residency is prioritized. The scholar will be provided with office space, an email account, and library privileges.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with, and understanding of, the broad diversity of the University community (students, faculty, staff and others).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
  • Ability and willingness to contribute actively to the Mission of the University and to respect the Spiritan Catholic identity of Duquesne University.

  • Backgrounds in podcasting and the ethical use of generative AI in audio story-telling and/or broadcasting.
  • Backgrounds in sports journalism/sports information.
  • Backgrounds in public relations.
  • Backgrounds in digital media design.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one, 3-credit undergraduate/graduate seminar on a topic of the scholar’s choosing among our department majors.
  • Offer one public lecture.
  • Hold weekly office hours for consultation by students and faculty.
  • Participate in Institute-sponsored events.
