The Department of Journalism & Creative Media in the College of Communication & Information Sciences at the University of Alabama invites applications for a nine-month tenured full professor with a focus on media entrepreneurship to begin August 16, 2027. We seek a distinguished scholar whose research and/or creative work is intellectually entrepreneurial and engages with emerging and transformative ideas, practices, technologies, organizations, and infrastructures in media fields. Areas may include, but are not limited to, innovative approaches to funding, producing, exhibiting and distributing film, TV, video, music, and/or news; emerging and experimental approaches to journalism; media startups; new genres and methods of storytelling; public-facing collaborative work; influencer, platform, and social media studies; artificial intelligence and generative media; gaming and game development; and changing structures and processes in media industries. This position offers established journalism and creative media scholars the resources and collaborative opportunities needed to take their research or creative endeavors to a higher level. The position is supported by an endowed fund gifted by the media publisher Southern Progress Corporation. The successful hire will teach two courses each fall and spring semester, which may include undergraduate, master’s and PhD courses. The position offers opportunities to develop new courses in areas that reflect the candidate’s scholarly expertise and interests.
