About The Position

The successful candidate will contribute to the undergraduate dance curriculum, the production season, student mentorship, recruitment and retention, and the School’s learning community. The Dance Program’s technique curriculum balances training across Contemporary African and African Diaspora Practices, Contemporary Ballet Practices, and Contemporary Dance Practices. The lecturer’s creative research and choreographic practice should inform pedagogy and help prepare students for varied professional paths in dance, performance, and creative practice. The position includes teaching undergraduate courses at beginning through advanced levels, with assignments based on the candidate’s expertise and the School’s instructional needs. Typical lecturer assignments are 7–9 credits, or 3–4 courses, per semester. Courses may cover dance techniques, composition, ensemble or repertory, somatics, professional development, and other dance-related subjects. The lecturer will mentor BA and BFA students, including senior projects, contribute to curriculum development and appropriate Quest and General Education offerings, and participate in the Dance Program’s performance season through choreography and/or artistic leadership. The successful candidate will also serve on Dance Area and School committees, engage with the School’s learning community, participate in recruitment and retention, and collaborate with faculty, staff, and students across the School of Theatre and Dance. UF describes the College of the Arts as a transformative community committed to critical study, creative practice, interdisciplinary learning, and preparing students to act as catalysts for justice at local and global levels. The position is at the University of Florida in Gainesville. The expected salary is $58,000–$63,000. UF offers health, dental, and vision plans; optional life, disability, legal, and accident insurance; leave programs; paid family leave; retirement plans; and employee discounts.
