About The Position

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is seeking applicants for a temporary, Visiting Lecturer and Culinary Coordinator position in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management from August 2026 through May 2027. The position will report to the Department Chair. The ideal candidate is committed to developing student-centered, forward-thinking, high-quality culinary pedagogy and contributing to an ambitious undergraduate Hospitality and Tourism Management program focusing on our culinary program.

Requirements

• Earned master's degree in hospitality and tourism or business management discipline.
• Demonstrate working with others and collegiality.
• Must have strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Must have knowledge of the hospitality industry.
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be able to show acceptable documentation establishing the right to accept employment in the United States of America without employer sponsorship.

• Full consideration will be given to business degrees with significant culinary certificates and culinary teaching experience.
• Competitiveness will be heightened with knowledge of and/or experience in the hospitality/tourism environment and hospitality technology.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality instruction for all courses assigned by the Department Chair within the Hospitality and Tourism Management curriculum. This includes preparing course syllabi, lesson plans, assessments, and maintaining accurate student records in accordance with university policy.
• Supervise the day-to-day operations of the department’s culinary and baking laboratory facilities. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe and sanitary lab environment, maintaining equipment and supplying inventories, enforcing proper food handling and safety protocols, and providing hands-on guidance to students during lab sessions.
• Serve on the planning committee of the University’s Veterans Gala scheduled for Fall 2026.
• Curate and manage the department’s Spring Luncheon series for Spring 2027.
• Attend departmental meetings, faculty orientations, and university-required training sessions.
• Maintain regular student office hours and be available for academic advising related to assigned courses.
• Collaborate with departmental faculty and staff to support the academic and professional development goals of the Hospitality and Tourism Management program.
• Adhere to all UMES academic policies, professional conduct standards, and applicable university regulations.
