About The Position

The University of Findlay invites applications for a Visiting Instructor of Music and Interim Director of Bands in the Department of Visual & Performing Arts for the 2026–27 academic year. This is a full-time position with the opportunity to apply for a continuing Instructor of Music and Director of Bands position in the future. The successful candidate will work with non-music major students and community members and will direct the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble each semester, the Marching Band in the fall, and the Pep Band in the spring. Depending on the candidate’s strengths and interests, additional responsibilities may include directing the Jazz Ensemble. The candidate will also participate in recruitment, assessment, and other faculty duties, and must demonstrate a strong commitment to student-centered education, as well as professional development, service, and scholarship.

Requirements

Master’s degree in music is required.
Significant experience in band conducting and teaching is required.
Ability to work effectively with musicians of varying skill levels.
Excellent communication skills.
Desire to work closely with students in a university environment that values strong faculty-student relationships.

Nice To Haves

D.M.A. or Ph.D. in conducting, performance, or music education is preferred.

Responsibilities

Direct the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble each semester.
Direct the Marching Band in the fall.
