About The Position

The Department of Spanish at the College of the Holy Cross is seeking a full-time visiting faculty member for a one-year term (leave replacement) for the 2026-2027 academic year, starting in August 2026. The role involves teaching Spanish at all levels, with a primary focus on language courses and an advanced seminar in 20th- and/or 21st-century Peninsular Spanish literature, film, and/or cultural studies. The ideal candidate will be adept at creating engaging, collaborative, and student-centered undergraduate courses in Spanish, covering contemporary topics relevant to Spain. The department is part of a dynamic academic community, with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with programs like Latin American, Latinx, and Caribbean Studies, Critical Race and Ethnic Studies, and International Studies. Faculty can also engage with the College’s study abroad programs in Spain and South America. Visiting full-time faculty are expected to teach 3 courses per semester (a 3-3 teaching load). The position requires a commitment to and excellence in undergraduate teaching and inclusive pedagogies, informed by current scholarship.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or a closely related field with a focus on twentieth and/or twenty-first century Spanish (Peninsular) literature and/or cultural studies.
  • Experience teaching Spanish at all levels.
  • Ability to design and deliver dynamic, collaborative, and student-centered undergraduate courses taught in Spanish and on contemporary topics with broad appeal related to Spain.
  • Demonstrated commitment to, and excellence in, undergraduate teaching and inclusive pedagogies, informed by current practice and scholarship in the field.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates in ABD status will be considered, though those with a Ph.D. in hand are preferred.
  • Experience with the College’s study abroad programs in Spain and South America.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Spanish at all levels.
