About The Position

The Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) is seeking applications for a full-time, visiting faculty position in collaborative piano and class piano to begin in August 2026. This is a non-tenure track, one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for up to 3 years. The Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance provides an intensive performing arts education within a liberal education. Our six degree programs are offered by 35 full-time faculty with over 150 performances by faculty, guest artists, and students each year. The department is located on the Valley campus in the Haas Center for the Performing Arts. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) is the largest college at GVSU, offering over 50 bachelor’s degrees and a growing number of advanced degrees in the natural and mathematical sciences, the fine arts and humanities, and the social sciences. CLAS is a student-centered and diverse learning community that engages in critical inquiry, extending knowledge to enrich and enliven individual and public life. Requirements

  • Successful candidates must be able to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and community members with a broad range of backgrounds and experiences
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and empathy.
  • Undergraduate degree in piano performance or collaborative piano.
  • Demonstrated professional excellence in collaborative piano with the skills necessary for choral and instrumental accompaniment.

  • Graduate degree in piano performance or collaborative piano.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in teaching keyboard musicianship.

Responsibilities

  • Duties each year include a 24-credit hour teaching load.
  • Primary duties will include accompanying university choirs, teaching class piano for non-keyboard music majors, and accompanying instrumental students for juries and recitals.
