About The Position

The Visiting Fellow will obtain advanced research training while contributing to the exchange of scientific knowledge within the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Under the mentorship of the principal investigator, the fellow will plan and execute independent and collaborative research projects in the Salazar‑Puerta Lab, with a primary emphasis on bioinformatics, data processing, and integrative analysis in translational and regenerative biomedical research. The fellow will design and implement analytical workflows for the processing, analysis, and interpretation of complex biological datasets, including transcriptomic and other high‑dimensional data. The position will also involve performing selected molecular biology techniques (e.g., RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR) to support data‑driven research objectives, with limited involvement in histological or animal work as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Requires successful completion of a background check.
  • Qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute independent and collaborative research projects in the Salazar‑Puerta Lab, with a primary emphasis on bioinformatics, data processing, and integrative analysis in translational and regenerative biomedical research.
  • Design and implement analytical workflows for the processing, analysis, and interpretation of complex biological datasets, including transcriptomic and other high‑dimensional data.
  • Apply statistical and computational methods, develop scripts or pipelines as needed, integrate experimental and computational results, and generate publication‑quality figures and summaries.
  • Perform selected molecular biology techniques (e.g., RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR) to support data‑driven research objectives.
  • Perform limited involvement in histological or animal work as required.
  • Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, and conference presentations.
  • Assist in the development of grant proposals for extramural funding.
  • Maintain accurate research documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory and data management standards.
  • Provide mentorship or technical guidance to students and junior laboratory members in data analysis and research methodologies.
