About The Position

The Department of History at High Point University is seeking a Visiting Historian to serve for one academic year, from the first full week of August 3, 2026, to May 7, 2027. This role requires the ability to teach US history courses and topical/thematic courses aligned with the applicant's research expertise and/or teaching experience. A passion for teaching within a university liberal arts core is essential. The teaching load for this visiting position is variable (3:3, 3:4, or 4:4), depending on the applicant's strengths and highest degree. Duties include service to the university, the Douglas S. Witcher School of Humanities and Behavioral Science, and the History Department, encompassing participation in institutional activities, active engagement in student learning outside the classroom, and upholding the university's values and mission in recruiting situations.

Requirements

  • Ability to teach US history courses
  • Ability to teach topical/thematic courses appropriate to the applicant’s research expertise and/or teaching experience
  • Passion for teaching within a university liberal arts core
  • M.A. in History or relevant field (i.e. American studies, Public History) by August 2026
  • Record of exceptional teaching
