About The Position

The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultural Studies at the University of Central Oklahoma is seeking a non-tenure track visiting assistant professor in Spanish and Language Education to begin August 2026. This full-time, temporary position involves teaching, advising, and mentoring students, evaluating student performance, and maintaining records. The role requires adherence to the university's educational philosophy, collaboration with colleagues, participation in faculty meetings, and service on committees. Responsibilities include teaching Spanish language courses, Spanish and Latin American culture and civilization classes, and Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages. Additional duties involve supervising student teachers, advising on Oral Proficiency Interviews, supporting language club activities, participating in OFLTA, and preparing departmental and accreditation reports.

Requirements

  • An earned Ph.D. in Spanish or related field is required by time of appointment.
  • A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a K-12 setting is required for this position.

  • Teaches across a range of courses in and about the Spanish language, literatures expressed in this language, and cultural surveys and topics related to Spain and Latin America.
  • Engages in service at the department, college, and university levels.
  • Maintains an active program of research, scholarly, and/or creative activity.
  • Supervises teacher education candidates during student teaching.
  • Advises students on the Oral Proficiency Interview.
  • Supports language club activities and events.
  • Participates in OFLTA (Oklahomans for World Language Teaching Association).
  • Prepares departmental and accreditation reports as requested.
