About The Position

The Department of Psychology at Trinity University invites applications for a visiting assistant professor position beginning in Fall 2026. A Ph.D. in Psychology or closely related discipline is required by August of 2026, and the area of specialization is open. The successful applicant will teach introductory courses (e.g., introductory psychology, statistics and methods), as well as advanced courses in their area of expertise. The teaching load is three courses per semester. Trinity University is a secular, independent, private institution, founded in 1869. Trinity offers high-quality science, liberal arts, and pre-professional programs as represented by the four schools (STEM, Arts & Humanities, Social Science and Civic Engagement, and Business) to approximately 2,500 undergraduate students from the U.S. and more than 45 countries. The attractive campus overlooks downtown San Antonio, a city rich in heritage and ethnic diversity. The Department of Psychology is one of eight departments in the D. R. Semmes School of Science, endowed with a gift of $26 million that in part supports student research and faculty development. The D. R. Semmes School of Science is housed in the Center for the Sciences and Innovation, an innovative and collaborative hub for interdisciplinary research and teaching. The Psychology Department is a collegial group of 11 full-time faculty and we serve approximately 200 psychology and neuroscience majors. We are committed to a teacher-scholar model that couples high impact teaching practices with research excellence. An active research program is not required for this position, but the department and university value faculty scholarship and would support the successful applicant’s research on campus (e.g., with lab space and funds for conference travel). Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Psychology or related subdiscipline (or expect to complete their Ph.D. by August, 2026)

Responsibilities

  • Teach 6 course sections per academic year (i.e., 3-3 load, with no more than two preparations per semester) and support the academic mission of the department and university.
  • The ideal candidate will be capable of teaching introductory courses (e.g., Introduction to Psychology, Statistics and Methods), as well as advanced undergraduate courses related to their area of expertise, and/or courses that contribute to general education curricular requirements.
