JOB DESCRIPTION: The Sociology Department at Pomona College in Claremont, CA invites applications for a three-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professorship, beginning fall 2026. The position has a teaching load of five courses for the year: three core courses and two electives. Areas of specialization are open, but preference will be given to candidates who can teach electives currently not offered by the Claremont Colleges as well as multiple sections of introduction to sociology.   • Employment is contingent upon providing proof of the legal right to work in the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 for the duration of the contract, July 1, 2026 until June 30, 2029.
  • The start date is effective July 1, 2026, with instruction beginning on Monday, August 31, 2026 for the fall semester and on Tuesday, January 19th, 2027 for the spring semester.
  • After submitting proof of work authorization and completing onboarding, Visiting Assistant Professors are expected to prepare for their classes and attend the New Faculty Orientation, held in the weeks before classes start in the fall.
