Assistant Professor of Sociology
About The Position
The Department of Sociology at Furman University invites applications for two Assistant/Associate/Professor tenure-track positions beginning August 1, 2027. We welcome candidates from whose expertise complements and expands our existing departmental strengths, and whose work reflects a commitment to rigorous inquiry and meaningful engagement with students. A Ph.D. in Sociology is required by August 1, 2027. We encourage applications from candidates who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, student mentorship, and research in a liberal arts environment. The teaching responsibility is five courses per academic year. A strong application will articulate how the candidate envisions contributing to our core curriculum, which includes Introduction to Sociology, Sociological Theory, Qualitative and Quantitative Methods, and 200-level courses in the Sociology of Gender and Sexuality, Race/Ethnicity, or Social Class. Beyond core requirements, we welcome applicants who would bring new course offerings that deepen and diversify our curricular landscape and contribute to the goals of Furman University’s Strategic Plan.
