About The Position

St. Norbert College seeks outstanding candidates for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in History, beginning in August 2027. Candidates should be ABD or hold a Ph.D., and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching introductory courses in U.S. History. Interdisciplinary scholars whose research and teaching are centered in U.S. History or American Studies are also encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates whose scholarly interests complement and expand the existing curriculum. Participation in the College's liberal arts Core Curriculum is expected. The ability to teach or develop upper-level courses in multiple areas of U.S. history is desirable. The teaching load is 3 to 4 courses per semester, and typically includes introductory courses and at least one upper-level course each semester. The position is offered as a one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal contingent on a positive annual performance review and/or institutional needs.

Requirements

  • ABD or Ph.D. in History or American Studies.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching introductory courses in U.S. History.
  • Ability to teach or develop upper-level courses in multiple areas of U.S. history.

  • Submit a 1-page statement describing how they envision contributing to and supporting the mission and values of St. Norbert College through their teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Address how they could participate in the educational vision laid out in the College’s Catholic, Liberal Arts, and Norbertine identity statements as well as Ex Corde Ecclesiae.
