About The Position

Whitman College, a liberal arts institution in Walla Walla, WA, is seeking candidates for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Geology and Environmental Studies, beginning August 2026. The role involves teaching undergraduate courses in geology, including Environmental Geology and Geomorphology, and a foundational, interdisciplinary Introduction to Environmental Studies course with a global approach. The teaching load is five courses per academic year. Whitman College emphasizes experiential learning, and the geology department is a founding member of the Keck Geology Consortium. The successful candidate will participate in the department’s twice-yearly Regional Geology class, a 4-day field trip in the Pacific Northwest, fostering student science identity and community connections. Requirements

  • Ph.D. is preferred upon starting the position. ABD candidates will be considered.
  • Interest in teaching undergraduates, majors as well as non-majors, at all levels of instruction.
  • Address how their classroom and scholarly practices will advance equity and inclusion in the learning environment.
