About The Position

Chatham University is seeking a full-time, one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology for the 2026–2027 academic year. This role supports undergraduate and graduate instruction in biology and health science-related coursework, providing temporary instructional coverage and ensuring continuity in key courses. The successful candidate will teach a standard load of 24 credits per academic year, with potential equivalencies for laboratory-intensive courses. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate biology majors, pre-health students, and graduate/professional programs, particularly in anatomy and foundational sciences for health professionals. The position requires a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Science, or a closely related field.
  • Strong background in human anatomy, physiology, or human biological sciences.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate biology or anatomy-related courses.
  • Commitment to effective, inclusive teaching.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching human anatomy and/or physiology.
  • Experience teaching graduate or professional health science students.
  • Experience teaching laboratory-based biology courses.
  • Experience working with pre-health students.
  • Familiarity with cadaver-based, model-based, or systems-based anatomy instruction.
  • Experience in a liberal arts, small college, or interdisciplinary science department environment.

Responsibilities

  • Human anatomy or anatomy-related coursework.
  • Human biology, physiology, or related undergraduate biology courses.
  • Graduate-level anatomy or foundational science coursework for health professional programs.
  • Biology laboratory instruction, including multi-section laboratory courses as needed.
  • Course preparation, delivery, assessment, and student support.
  • Coordination with biology faculty and health science programs to maintain instructional continuity.
  • Holding regular office hours and supporting student success.
  • Participation in departmental activities related to teaching and curriculum coordination.
