The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Memphis seeks candidates for an Earth Scientist at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor. This is a nine-month appointment for the 2026-2027 academic year. The successful candidate will teach up to three sections per semester, primarily introductory undergraduate courses. The department offers seven introductory general education courses covering topics such as weather and climate, landforms, physical geology, the earth through time, the human planet, survey of world regions, and cultural geography. The visiting assistant professor will be part of an interdisciplinary program with concentrations in geoarchaeology, geography, geology, and environmental sciences. The University of Memphis is a public research university with a strong commitment to its urban mission, serving approximately 22,000 students, including 5,000 graduate students.
