About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is hiring a Virtualization Platform Engineer to design, implement, and manage virtualization infrastructure supporting enterprise applications and services for the NNSA’s business services and programmatic missions. The position is within the Enterprise Infrastructure Services Division of the Computing Directorate and supports the NNSA Program. Full-time on-site presence is required. The role may be filled at either the SES.2 or SES.3 level based on knowledge and related experience; additional responsibilities apply at SES.3. The engineer designs, implements, and supports highly available VMware virtual infrastructures in private cloud environments. The position includes configuring and maintaining VMware clusters and platforms; automating service orchestration, monitoring, configuration management, security, and patch management; and collaborating with customers and technical teams to deliver virtualization solutions. It also supports the full lifecycle of VMware architectures, including risk analysis, capacity planning, architecture and development, quality assurance, documentation, standards enforcement, implementation, upgrades, security compliance, vulnerability remediation, and performance monitoring. Day-to-day operational support spans development, test, production, and disaster recovery environments. At the SES.3 level, the engineer independently manages advanced tasks and competing priorities, applies advanced technical expertise to complex problems, develops automation and cross-platform monitoring tools and procedures, and leads deployment and lifecycle management of cloud management platforms such as VMware Cloud Director/VMware Aria Suite and VMware Cloud Foundation. The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. The role is a Career Indefinite position open to Lab employees and external candidates. The stated annual salary ranges are $146,340–$185,544 at SES.2 and $175,530–$222,564 at SES.3.
